A silence overwhelms the room, and I can't bear to look at Jack anymore, staring back down at the tiled floor of the mudroom. Why isn't anyone saying anything? I look back up to see Jack staring at me. There's a frown on his face, a hard look in his eyes.

“Yeah, I have. Is that a problem?” I look up at Randy now, fearing his reaction to Jack's attitude.

The two men eye each other for what seems like forever, before the older man in my life closes his eyes, shrugging as he slowly shakes his head. “The only issue I have with it is that she kept it from me. I punished her earlier, but I really don't think she's learned her lesson.”

My eyes widen and my jaw drops as I step back.
